AIDS WALK is a fund-raiser to support the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS in our community. The 2008 AIDS WALK will begin at the Myriad Botanical Gardens located in downtown Oklahoma City on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Registration and entertainment begin at 12:30 p.m.; Opening ceremonies and Step-off at 2:00 p.m; Closing ceremonies at 3:00 p.m.


COUNT ME IN!
There are many ways you can support AIDS WALK 2007. Whether as a team captain or team member, as an individual walker, or as a donor, you can help bring your friends on board. Please list the name, contact information and donation amount for each person you recruit to sponsor your participation in AIDS WALK 2007. Then choose one of the options below and register by sending your completed form with your collected donations to the address listed below or bring them with you to register at the Walk on Sunday, September 30.

I'LL BE A TEAM CAPTAIN!
We need your help to organize a walk team! Recruit friends, family, co-workers, neighbors or members of your organization. Each person on your team should complete a registration form (including signing the waiver). You may copy these sections of the brochure as needed for your team members. After soliciting sponsors, team members should bring their sponsor information, their completed registration form and their collected donations with them to the Walk on Sunday, September 30th. You may also bring your team members' forms along with everyone's donations to the Walk, or mail everything in ahead of time to the address listed below. We want to see your team there!

I'LL WALK!
We invite you to come walk with us, as part of a walk team or as an individual. After you have collected donations, you may bring them along with your sponsor information list and your completed registration form on Sunday, September 30th, or pre-register by sending those same items to the address listed below.

AIDS Walk of Oklahoma City
2008 Grant Applications!


Since 1999, the AIDS Walk of Oklahoma City has granted over $333,000 to provide critically needed services to individuals living with HIV or AIDS. All qualifying 501 (c)(3) non-profit organizations serving the greater Oklahoma City community are encouraged to apply for grant funds. Volunteer Opportunities Each year AIDS WALK OKLAHOMA CITY relies upon the time and talents of volunteers. If you can donate your time and/or skills other than walking, which you think would be helpful in planning and implementing the AIDS Walk and related activities, you can still make a wonderful contribution to this event! Fundraising tips
Forms

If you haven't taken the first step and registered to walk, the forms are available now. Now it’s time to take the second step … begin getting sponsors!

Money raised for the WALK funds HIV prevention and education programs and HIV support and care services. All money raised remains in Oklahoma! Getting sponsors can be fun and easy. Below are some tips to help you get started. Remember, ask every sponsor to please give generously.

  • Tell your story. Why are you doing the AIDS Walk? When you ask for contributions, share your personal reasons for getting involved with the fight against AIDS.
    • You may know someone who is living with HIV or has died of AIDS.
    • A personal hero of yours may have died of AIDS. The world has lost some of its most talented artists, greatest athletes and finest human beings to AIDS.
    • You believe in the cause. Many of us want to preserve the future for our children. Many of us want to put an end to human suffering. Many of us are concerned by the impact the unchecked spread of AIDS could have on our world.
  • Know the Basics. Quote the facts. The numbers say the fight against AIDS is far from over. Use the information on the home page to demonstrate the need to support HIV/AIDS programs in Oklahoma.
  • Set a goal and stay focused. Set a challenging but achievable goal for yourself and stick to it. You will be amazed at how great you feel when you reach it! Just $125 (five $25 contributions) can feed a family of five for a week.
  • Carry your sponsor sheet with you at all times and remember; it really doesn't hurt to ask . . . you will find donations and generosity in some unexpected places
    • Your Family - Parents, Grandparents, Siblings, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins
    • Your Friends - Old And New, Far And Wide. Raising Funds For AIDS Walk Oklahoma City Could Be The Excuse You Were Looking For To Make That Long Overdue Phone Call
    • Your Boss, Your Co-Workers, Your Significant Others' Boss And Co-Workers
    • Your Neighbors, Your Doctor, Your Real Estate Agent, Your Accountant
    • People At Your Place Of Worship
    • People You Take Classes With, Play Sports With, Share Hobbies With Or Who Are Members Of A Club You Belong To
    • That Person You Have Been Trying To Introduce Yourself To
    • Set a good example and sponsor yourself with a generous donation!
  • Organize a fundraising event . . .
    • Get together with your team and host a silent auction
    • Ask your church choir to host a benefit concert
    • Have a car wash
    • Set-up a piggybank at your company or the place where your organization meets and help everyone get rid of that annoying spare change!
  • Tap into your competitive instincts! Encourage friendly competition among companies or individuals. There are prizes for the teams that raise the most money but you can come up with your own prizes to award to the team you are competing against. The prize could be a gourmet picnic the day of the walk OR "butler for a day" services . . .
